How do satellites launch? Follow up reading
Please read the following article and respond to the questions below on a piece on notebook paper. This article is a follow up to the satellite (Kepler's Satellite lab).
lhttp://www.globalcomsatphone.com/hughesnet/satellite/orbit.html
Questions to answer:
1. Are satellites launched into space on their own, or are they moved in something else? If so, then what is that device moving them?
2. Which direction are satellites initially launched? Why is it important to launch them in this direction?
3. At about 120 miles in height, what happens to the satellite?
4. From the lab, article, and notes, why is it important to have horizontal (side to side) velocity when trying to get a satellite to orbit the earth?
5. Give 2 reasons why it is important to plan a satellites launch orbit accurately. (if you need help think back to the video of the satellites already out in space)
